Age of Dragons

Castle Naerytar (Session 9)

Leech’s Journal:

Entry #1:
Once we managed to make our way past the guardhouse we quickly made our way down the long corridor before entering a large courtyard. Numerous doors led to and fro but we had little clue of which direction to proceed. It was only a few steps in that we came under sudden attack from numerous frog-men known as bullywugs. We made short work of them before Snapjaw managed to befriend several lizardfolk who had arrived during the battle. It seems he has won them over to our side somehow, but we are unsure what was said in their strange tongue?

Entry #2:
We have entered some sort of chapel and a large wooden likeness of the Queen of Darkness now looms over us. Navarro has taken on the illusion of a lizardfolk and is now kneeling before the statue in faked reverence. The lizardfolk obviously not knowing any better have followed suit.

Entry #3:
After further investigation of the area we prepared to head back out into the courtyard. It wasn’t so easy however as several dozen bullywugs where discovered to be waiting outside the door. It took very little time for the situation to deteriorate into violence. Thankfully we were able to use the doorway as a bottleneck however, and managed to control their overwhelming numbers. The place is now a bloody mess!
Bullywugs.jpg
Entry #4:
After attempting to clean the courtyard as best we could we moved to inspect the northeast tower. It was there that we found over a dozen elite lizardfolk guards and their living quarters as well as several weapon smiths. Snapjaw felt it best that we leave so we followed his advice.

Entry #5:
We’ve now entered the central courtyard tower. It was here that Navarro had nearly a dozen very large centipedes fall upon him from above the door. After we rid him of his creepy crawlies we moved inward to inspect the remaining area. This seems as though it might be a good place for a rest…

An Unexpected Ally (Session 8)

Navarro’s Journal:

Entry #1:
As we exited the long and narrow secret tunnel we could hear some strange gutteral language off in the distance. Unsure of what to make of it we cautiously proceed, but upon reaching the surface the voices had vanished into the thick swamplands.

Entry #2:
Water surrounds us in every direction, and the only visible land is a wet and spongy mess at best, and at worst is nothing short of knee deep water. Thankfully their seems to be markings and carvings on intermittent trees showing us the way. The path is often submerged, and without the tree markings we would undoubtedly become lost.

Entry #3:
Finally found a somewhat dry piece of land and it is nearly nightfall. Several lean-tos sit abandoned at the moment, and three tree-carved canoes sit nearby. Do we dare stay here?

Entry #4:
We were attacked early in the night by lizard-men apparently returning to their camp! Killed eight of them before the last one began to speak in broken common. Communication was difficult but it seemed he wanted to help in exchange for our assistance. Apparently he has a particular dislike for what he refers to as the “frog-men”?

Entry #5:
Next morning we head out of camp in dug-out tree canoes into the marsh. The lizard-man named Snapjaw agrees to lead the way. Once again we notice markings upon the trees as we proceed further into the Mere of Dead Men. Snapjaw seems to know where guards are posted throughout the swamp so we have managed to avoid detection thus far, or so we continue to hope.

Entry #6:
Many hours later, and stiff from extended canoe travel we arrived at an ruined castle in the middle of the swamp!? Longhouses made from reeds could be seen at the forefront of the castle and another dozen or more smaller huts spotted the boggy ground nearby. Giant frogs the size of a man stand in pools of water scattered amongst the huts! Where in the nine-hells are we?!
Castle_Naerytar.jpg
Entry #7:
We have managed to fight our way through the interior gate-house. The room was filled with large frogs and frog-men called bullywugs, at least a dozen or more combined. Battle lasted nearly a minute. We are now concerned if others further inside have been alerted by our presence?…

The Long Road Ends (Session 7)

Mouse’s Journal:

Entry #1:
We are now 6 days out from finally arriving in Waterdeep. It’s been a long and exhausting journey but we are all doing well. Today both wheel axles broke on the merchant wagon I had been riding on throughout the trip, and both snapped in the same place. Barrels of ale spilled out onto the road and the poor merchant was beside himself. Luckily others agreed to find room for a keg or two upon their wagons to help the guy out. Sabotage?

Entry #2:
Still 6 days out and it appears that I somehow avoided an attempt on my life. Beheaded my would be attacker with one quick swipe of my blade. He will no longer be a problem.

Entry #3:
Some of my would be attackers friends came by early this morning looking for their missing companion. Good Luck, we hid him well. They seem to be glaring at us often with discontent in their eyes. Maybe I should detach their heads as well.

Entry #4:
We’ve notice a small gnome hanging around the cult’s wagons. Not sure if she is connected to the group or not but something is up…

Entry #5:
Still 5 days out and Navarro and Leech seemed to have found a new friend, the small gnome who joined the caravan during the middle of our trip and was hanging around the cult’s wagons yesterday. Wonder what they’re talking about?

Entry #6:
Now 2 days away from Waterdeep after an uneventful day and night. Woke to quite a commotion today. Apparently Bartock is being accused of murder by a number of cult members because his rapier blade was the same size of the deadly wound in the man’s back. Then the situation took a turn for the worse when Navarro pointed out that he and Leech also had like-sized rapiers. They then began accusing them as well. It was getting a bit heated and messy, but thankfully many of the other merchants agreed that their was in fact no proof, just circumstantial evidence. The commotion has since died down but the cult members now look at us with great disdain in their eyes. I trust none of them.

Entry #7:
Last two days of travel were uneventful, just a few dirty looks from numerous cultists. Might have to detach all of their heads, ugly bastards!

Entry #8:
Finally reached Waterdeep tonight, day 40 of our northward trek. Exhausted! Caravan dispersed as we entered the city but we noticed many of the cultist’s wagons continued north so we followed. Several of us made a quick v-line to the stables to equip our horses as needed, but it wasn’t long before we caught up with the cultist wagons at the north gate. It was there that we noticed more wagons joining the group. We were now at a supply warehouse run by the High Road Charter Company. An old friend of mine named Ardred Briferhew seems to be in charge here, and is organizing work crews to head north to repair the roads to Neverwinter. Apparently many of these roads have fallen into disrepair over the last century since the volcanic explosion that nearly destroyed Neverwinter. I used my personal connection with Ardred to secure us a place in the next caravan which leaves tomorrow morning.

Entry #9:
The gnome, Jamna, has decided to join us as we continue to investigate the cultist wagons. She assures us that although we belong to different organizations we are on the same side and have similar interests.

Entry #10:
We are now following the man we saved from being buried in the road on our travels north. His name is Carlon Amoffel, and we believe he is a Harper, but we need to confirm this before we reveal ourselves to my like-minded allies. He has led us to a local inn where we followed him through the kitchen and into the basement. It is there that some sort of secret meeting is taking place.

Entry #11:
He is indeed a member of the Harpers and we’ve now been introduced to the other members. It has been decided that Carlon will join us on our northward journey. We’ve all been hired on as guards by Ardred.

Entry #12:
Fifteen days later we arrived at Carnath Roadhouse late in the afternoon, having survived a troll attack several days earlier, along with numerous dirty looks from the many cultists blending in with the caravan. They seem none to happy with our continued presence. The roadhouse is located along the “Mere of Dead Men”, a swampy marshland that has overtaken the road numerous times over the years. My five companions and I are sharing one room and the cultists occupy two other rooms nearby. The gnome, Jamna, is staying with other strangers in a room next to the cultists in order to keep a close eye on what’s going on.

Entry #13:
The next day we investigated the nearby storage room. There we discovered much of the cargo unloaded yesterday had mysteriously disappeared! But where too? Eventually Leech picked the half-orc bosses keys and unlocked a door adjacent to the storage room, and then kindly returned the keys unbeknownst to the half-orc. It was in this locked room we would later that day discover a secret passage under a nailed down crate. It was a narrow, slimy, wet passage around six-feet tall that lead nearly 500 yards to a stand of trees in the middle of the “Mere of Dead Men”. We now ponder whether we should stake out the area or begin tracking for anyone who may have recently used this hidden tunnel.

The Long Road (Session 6)

Ghidorah’s Journal:

Entry #1:
As we prepare to depart the roadside inn, it is now day 20 of our travels north. A male human and female gnome joined the caravan this morning just before we left. Each joined a different merchant wagon, but it’s the man who has garnered our attention. He wears long dark robes and wearing a wool cap with neck flaps. But it’s what we believe we saw under the wool cap that has gained our attention; it looks like his head may be shaven and tattooed but we can’t be certain.

Entry #2:
It’s now day 24 and we have arrived in the town of Edgewood Hollow. As we prepare to spend the night we have decided to find a local armor and weapons smith in order to obtain some better equipment.

Entry #3:
We now prepare to depart Edgewood Hollow the next morning. Once again two more travelers joined the caravan this morning. The two appear to be sisters and own their own horses. The only reason we’ve taken notice of such a mundane fact is that the two seemed to take notice of us earlier in town. Navarro seems suspicious of both, but he’s probably just jealous that they don’t like him.

Entry #4:
Day 28, those two sisters came over to visit Leech and Navarro. That little halfling’s ego is through the roof now I am sure. Now I am suspicious. Why would either of those sisters have any interest in a small halfling?
doppelganger.jpg
Entry #5:
Suspicions confirmed! Sisters tried luring a few of us into the woods. Lucky for us we all decided to follow when we heard screams. Turned out both we some type of shape changers, as they soon took on Navarro and Leech’s identity. None of us could tell who was who? Thankfully we eventually chased both individuals off into the woods however, as I think there was more of us than the two of them could handle. They were last seen running east into the woods.

Entry #6:
Day 29, Mouse seems distracted today but I’m not sure why. He keeps looking at a particular wagon driver. I’ve noticed the two often exchanging glances, but Mouse hasn’t said anything to us about what might be going on.

Entry #7:
Day 32, we are now skirting around the east side of the “Fields of the Dead”, a massive flat swampland along the northwest coast. Not long after we spotted what looked to be an abandoned wagon with two dead draft horses. But a closer look revealed crates stacked around the bottom of the wagon with several men hiding underneath. It wasn’t long after that an arrow suddenly plunged into one of the crates, originating from our right. Hobgoblin were soon discovered hiding amongst the brush. We eliminated 6 of them before Navarro charmed their leader. Soon after questioning the hobgoblin we killed him too.

Entry #8:
Navarro sold two horses to the stranded merchant for 160 gold. The merchant was pleased, as he obviously needed replacements to pull his wagon. The dead horses were removed from the road.

Deadly Decisions (Session 5)

Leech’s Journal:

Entry #1:
Returned to Greenest after fleeing the enemies cave. Reported to Governor Nighthill that we had regretably lost two companions, Bob and Soveliss

Entry #2:
We’ve decided to head north to Elturel where we hope to locate Leosin in order to report what we discovered in the cave.

Entry #3:
Met a grungy dwarf during our travels north, kind of stinks to be honest. Perhaps a little too much nature living if you ask me. Has decided to travel north with us.

Entry #4:
No one in Elturel seems to know who in the nine hells Leosin is? Finally we decide to ask about another contact Leosin had mentioned a number of days ago, Ontharr Frume. We were directed towards the strangely named “A Pair of Black Antlers Tavern”.

Entry #5:
The tavern turned out to be quite the rowdy crowd when we arrived, games of physical prowess and dexterity were in full swing. Strong half-orc immediately grabbed our attention at the arm wrestling table. Bartock quickly sat down to the challenge and nearly had his arm ripped off! Then shocked us all by actually winning one!! Navarro is involved in heavy betting with one of the men in the crowd, like 20 gold pieces a bet, crazy halfling going to lose all his coin if he’s not careful.

Entry #6:
After fun and games we discovered Leosin was in a back room with some other men from the surrounding countryside. We also discovered we had already met Ontharr Frume, he had been betting with Navarro the whole time apparently. Seems we had got the groups attention during the festivities and they soon invited into the back room to join them. It was there that we were informed of the existence of the “Cult of the Dragon”, a group that is renowned for trying to raise undead dragons in the desert lands of the far east. Apparently they are now active along the west coast however, and they seem interested in the chromatic dragons that still live. There is great angst to what all this might mean. It was then that Leosin informed us of his connections to the Harpers organization. Ontharr followed the by informing us that he was a member of another organization called the Order of the Gautlet. Apparently all these organizations were joining forces against the growing threat. We were asked if we might be interesting in joining the fight. Most of us agreed to join up with the Harpers. It was then suggested that we make use of the brute of a half-orc we met in the commons room. He was a strong one with a certain demeanor that might prove useful. He didn’t seem interested in joining any organization but agreed to join our ragtag band independently, his name is Ghidorah.

Entry #7:
It is decided that we should immediately travel upriver to the town of Baldur’s Gate in order to get ahead of the advancing wagons of the enemy looters. It is there that we are to join the wagons as guards in order to spy on the cult. We are not to give away our true identity at any point. Information is more important at this juncture.

Entry #8:
We have arrived in Baldur’s Gate. Must skirt around city walls as they apparently don’t allow most sorts of animals, or wagons for that matter, inside the city limits due to the narrow streets.

Entry #9:
Finally spotted the enemies wagons today. We’ve waited nearly a week. Also spotted a palanquin being carried by numerous guards. Some in our group swear they saw a black half-dragon through a slit in the curtains, but we cant be sure. Navarro thinks it might be Rezmir? We prepare to find work as guards on other wagons within the large caravan.

Entry #10:
Only third night into our travels north we ran into some trouble. Three men appeared to have purchases all the rooms at a roadside inn, and then began mocking the group about sleeping out in the cold. Half-Orc Ghidorah took a dislike to this, and soon found himself in a bad situation before fleeing for his life. Navarro promises to get even later tonight, he’s going to free their horses from the stables. Boy are they going to be pissed!

Entry #11:
Yep, they’re pissed! Next morning they picked us out in the caravan and threatened our group. Shady trio indeed. Some believe they might be hired assassins, may the gods help us if that proves to be true! We now prepare to head north with the wagons as each of us blends in with our employers. We believe our true identity is still unknown.

Entry #12:
Nearly a ten-day has now passed. A herd of deer was spotted near dusk up on a nearby hill. Many in the merchant caravan scrambled for their bows for some good eats. But it was one individual that caught everyones eye, a golden stag! A magnificent beast that stood above the rest, its golden coat gleaming in the setting sun. Fearing that the beautiful beast might be killed Mouse ran towards it in an attempt to frighten it away, then disappearing into the nearby woods in order to follow the animal. When Mouse returned he spoke a nearly unbelievable tale about how the golden stage spoke to him without words, assuring him that we were on the right path, and to continue following the river of gold until we reach the castle in the sky. It then warned him that the path would be sadly filled with hardship and blood. Then an enchanted bow appeared on the ground before the barbarian as the golden stag began to fade from sight, but not before it wordlessly left one departing thought “not all will survive…”

Entry #13:
Several events over last two days have left our group on edge. Found one man buried up to his neck in the middle of the road with the word “Oathbreaker” written on his forehead, he was unconscious but we managed to dig him up and revive him. Once he was free he told us the oath in which he broke was to marry a woman, which apparently upset her family. Although possible, he seems to be withholding something. We will need to watch this one closely. Also noticed a tatoo upon the mans arm, that of the Harpers!? We are unwilling to give up our identity until we know more. Things just don’t make sense.
We’ve also had a run in with another merchant in the caravan who abuses his horses. We agreed to let him borrow ours but if he so much as injures one of them in any way there will be hell to pay. We are now nursing his wounded animals back to health.

Entry #14:
Murder!? We awoke this morning to find one of the caravan guards dead. No noticeable wounds could be found upon the body but Navarro seems to believe foul play was involved. Could it be poison? Some seem to remember this man trying to help one of the undercover cultist wagons when some of its “precious” cargo overturned several days ago. Others worry about the three rumored to be assassins we met on day 3 of our travels north. Things are suddenly very tense…

The Cave (Session 4)

Bartock’s Journal:

Entry #1:
As we entered the cave it quickly became obvious that it was an extensive system of interconnected caverns. Met resistance shortly after entering. We have spotted a hidden tunnel in the shadows of the cavern system to the southwest and are now preparing to investigate.

Entry #2:
Tunnel forks in two directions so we investigated to the right, found and killed a drunk and unconscious cultist. We don’t want anyone sneaking up behind us as we progress.

Entry #3:
Tunnel to the left opened into a large chamber with numerous cultists and guards trying to prevent our entry. Things were a bit touch and go early on but we eventually forced our way inside. Killed enemies who wore scabbards decorated with dragon motifs. Discovered a three-foot wide tunnel hidden underneath carpet.

Entry #4:
Wow, thought we knew Soveliss but there is truly something strange about that one! He has an imp familiar or something demonic? Little guy seems to have strange powers to change shape, first a raven and then a spider. Got to be honest I am a bit creeped out. Not sure I trust that one?

Entry #5:
Found note mentioning that all the wealth from the armies recent looting of the area needed to be taken north to Naerytar by order of Rezmir. Also found some bad poetry about dragons, seems like some sort of strange obsession. We now plan to head down the three-foot wide tunnel dug into the chamber’s floor that we discovered under the carpet.

Entry #6:
Exhausted!!! We simply ran for our lives. Tunnel lead us into near disaster. Beyond tunnel was a strong force of cultists and guards lead by none other than the blue dragon-man himself. Bob bravely challenged the half-beast to a one on one duel, and it most assuredly lead to his demise. The dragon-man simply overpowered Bob, and proceeded to batter his lifeless body even after he fell, his greatsword descending blow after blow.
Cyanwrath.jpg
Quickly we all attacked in an attempt to save our hapless companion but to no avail. Soon Soveliss’ was blowing on a golden-whistle just before his body was seen lying motionless on the cavern floor near the tunnel’s exit. It was obvious to us all that we would surely meet the same fate if we did not retreat, and even then our escape would be in doubt. As we departed we spotted the “one in purple” but had no time to take any actions, hurriedly we simply made for the thirty-foot rope ladder at the entrance to the tunnel with all the speed we could muster. Navarro made it before me and began to pull up the ladder to ensure his escape, but thankfully he heard my desperate cries to stop, and returned the ladder to its rightful place to allow my escape. I then pulled up the rope ladder, hoping all the while that I hadn’t trapped any of our companions below. We then hastily made for our horses, our thoughts consumed by our fallen companions, Bob and Soveliss, may they rest in peace.

The Chase (Session 3)

Navarro’s Journal:

Entry #1:
As we continued our travels in pursuit of Greenest’s looters we spotted smoke in the distance. As we approached I began to scout ahead. Four cultists were found eating by a fire while eight kobolds sat a little further away. We set a plan to sneak our entire group close enough to gain surprise, planning to take out the humans first before engaging the larger group of kobolds. The plan went off without a hitch, and it wasn’t long before the remainder of the kobolds fled for their very lives.

Entry #2:
Narrowly avoided an ambush as the trail narrowed between two rocky outcroppings in the hills. I believe we have finally caught up with what we assume to be the rear guard of the dragon army. Killed twelve humans including a guard, six cultists in black, and two robed acolyte spell casters. Once again we made quick work of our enemy. We now know we need to make our way to the enemies larger camp before anyone notices what has happened here.

Entry #3:
Finally reached the enemy encampment in the hollow of a rocky plateau shaped like a horseshoe. Large cliffs rim the camp on three sides. Tents are scattered over a large area below and we must decide how to proceed.

Entry #4:
We’ve decided to enter dressed just as we are and with no stealth. Noticed none of the cultists returning to camp are dressed alike so we hope to fit right in with this ragtag group.

Entry #5:
Made our way past the kobold’s upper portion of the camp and have made our way deep down into the heart of the human encampment. I took on the appearance of a kobold myself but felt a bit out of place further down so I decided to find a private place amongst a copse of trees to transform back to human form.

Entry #6:
After gathering a bit of info from various humans deep within the camp we finally located Leosin Erlanthar, the missing monk. We moved quickly to set up a rescue, but to our surprise he seemed reluctant to leave, hoping to gather more information about the cult! With little time to argue we quickly left, but not before we were spotted by a guard. Unfortunately for him it was a short talk. We hid the body in the trees and decided to leave the camp as quickly as possible. Little doubt the shit was about to fly, and none of us wanted to be around when it did. As we moved towards the edges of the camp however the kobold guards spotted our hasty exit. Quickly we broke into a run and made for the horses, and thankfully outran our pursuers. We now make our way back to Greenest to file a report.
Leosin.jpg
Entry #7:
Back in town you will never guess who we met the next day at noon, Leosin! Apparently last night after we left the camp went into a frenzy as the dead guards were discovered, and the monk decided the time to stick around was quickly fading so he cut his ropes and quietly snuck away into the night.

Entry #8:
Leosin wished to hire us on to once again investigate the camp. He believes he would be easily recognized by the cult but believes we on the other hand could still enter unnoticed. His offer is 150 gold each upon completion of the mission. We accept. He then tells us to report back to him, or Ontharr Frume, at the city of Elturel afterwards.

Entry #9:
Upon returning to the enemy camp we find ourselves in disbelief. The camp is all but gone! All that remains are the burnt remnants of the kobold tents and a few of the human tents far below. We approach carefully but soon realize the camp seems deserted with the exception of a few rangers that appear to be hunting the local area. We also note the cave carved into the side of the cliff being guarded by two of the rangers, so we’ve decided to approach in a non-threatening manner.

Entry #10:
The rangers seem to have little affiliation with the cult, although they do hunt for good pay in order to feed those that remain. According to the rangers that includes the Wearer of Purple, the dragon-man, a few warriors, and the dragon-dogs. None of the rangers seem to care if we enter however, it’s as though the whole guard the cave entrance thing is below them. We prepare to enter…

Ending a Long Night (Session 2)

Bob’s Journal:

Entry #1:
Following a short briefing by Governor Nighthill we headed into the streets of Greenest once again. Joined five other individuals I barely know. Four of these companions seem to discuss plans on how to proceed while the barbarian and I stand by quietly listening.

Entry #2:
The little guy, Navarro, lead us downstairs to the entrance of an old tunnel that exited near the stream south of the keep. We took great care to keep the location hidden as we departed before heading into the open streets of town. Rescued a large group of citizens barricaded inside a temple to a god of harvest, saved the local flower mill, and fought numerous cultists, kobolds, and drakes through much of the evening.

Entry #3:
Captured a kobold prisoner, or should I say the little guy (Navarro) charmed one, giving us some information about what was now taking place inside Greenest. Apparently they’re working for some Cult of the Dragon, and a “dragon lady”? They also appear to be stealing much of the citizen’s valuables, and for the most part are looting Greenest while killing anyone who gets in their way. Stupid creature wasn’t much more help however, and upon releasing him at the tunnel exit we were nearly ambushed by his waiting companions. Got really ugly really fast, and if not for the healing powers of two of my new companions we may not have survived, but thank the gods we did. Now badly battered and bruised, some of us worse than others, we decide we can continue no more. We shall seek out treatment for our injuries before resting for the remainder of the night, hoping that we’ve done enough to help the community survive this nightmare. The time is now very late, and sunrise is expected in the next three or so hours. So very tired.

Entry #3:
Rose up at nearly high noon. Wasn’t long before Governor Nighthill was upon us with news of the hours just prior to sunrise. Apparently some blue dragon-man, nearly seven feet in height and wielding a great sword, appeared before the keep’s walls near the end of the night. With him were several hostages he had little use for, so he offered up a deal. Their release in exchange for the keep’s best warrior, but not for a prisoner exchange, but instead a fight to the death! One named Sergeant Markguth agreed to the challenge, and the dragon-man was true to his word and released the prisoners. Turns out the Sergeant was the woman prisoners brother! Given the circumstances it was an easy choice to volunteer for the honorable Sergeant. It was also nothing short of suicide, as Governor Nighthill proceed to explain the decisive result, the dragon-man making short work of the much smaller human. Then just as quickly as they came the blue dragon-man lead his remaining troop out of town towards the southeast.
Cyanwrath.jpg

Entry #4:
We now prepare to give chase. This dragon army is still largely an unknown entity to us all and Governor Nighthill has asked us to find out where their camp is located, how many raiders there are, who their leaders are, what’s the motivation behind these attacks, and where they might plan to strike next? He’s willing to pay well, 250 gold a piece!! Literally more gold than I have ever had in my whole life!!! Bartock has already picked up on the trail heading to the southeast, apparently the ranger has a knack for this sort of thing so guess I’ll follow.

Entry #5:
As we left town a young man approached us limping heavily on his bandaged left leg. He asked us to keep and eye out for his missing master, Leosin Erlanthar, a monk from Berdusk. Seems he disappeared during the attack last night. The only thing found this morning was his broken staff and a roughly torn choker. We promise to keep our eyes open but hesitate to offer too much hope. As we depart we were informed that Leosin had been investigating the raiders for numerous months prior.

Entry #6:
Spotted smoke. A camp of what looks to be stragglers about half a days trek away from Greenest in a rocky outcropping of the foothills. Four cultists eating by a cooking fire while their eight kobold companions eat about fifty yards away. They still seem unaware of our presence so we now set a plan to carefully approach…

Greenest Under Attack! (Session 1)

Bartock’s Journal:

Entry #1:
Met up with a merchant caravan today crossing over grasslands. Decided that it might be safer traveling amongst a group than alone so I joined them. As dusk approached the town of Greenest drew near, but it wan’t the peaceful oasis we hoped as large columns of black smoke can be seen rising in the distance, an ill omen indeed.

Entry #2:
Greenest is under attack! Burning buildings amongst running figures that are little more that dots to us at a distance. But even more alarming is the dark winged shape wheeling low over the central keep. Could it be a Dragon!?

Entry #3:
I made it to the tangled brush along a stream running to the south of town. Less than a handful of others were attempting to follow. If that dark shape was indeed a dragon I had no intention of being anywhere out in the open. Finally after a short ways through the dense brush I made my way to its northern edge. It was there that my fears were confirmed, the dark shape was in fact a huge blue dragon! Then I noticed near the southern edge of town some sort of commotion. Eight small dog-like reptilian creatures known as kobolds had a woman surrounded as her injured family ran for cover. I quickly joined a group of like minded individuals in fighting off the little critters and the women was extremely thankful. She asked us to help them reach the safety of the keep at the center of town. We agreed.

Entry #4:
Chaos throughout the town’s streets as kobolds, men in black leather armor, and four-legged drakes that resemble a blue dragon roam the streets. Killing and looting is widespread. We fight several of the afore mentioned groups before nearing the keep. It is there that we are joined by a man wearing animal skins and wielding a great two-handed sword. Then a small shadowy figure beckons us from atop the keep’s parapets. He seemed to be urging us towards the keep’s front gates so we made a break for it. Then we realized the urgency of the moment as the huge blue dragon was closing quickly. Thankfully we fought our way through the remaining foes that stood in our way just as lightning shook the keep to its very core. We are fortunate indeed.

Entry #5:
I have a feeling we are all in for a long night. In the most unlikely of circumstances I have met several individuals that seem willing to leave the relative safety of the keep to help the outlying community. I am now joined by Bob, a quiet man who seems to posses the healing powers of his god, as well as the ability to swing a viscous hammer; Soveliss, a half-elf possessing the ability to call upon unseen forces to inflict harm to our enemies; and Leech, a man of many skills and the ability to blend into his surroundings (a trait I must admit that I admire greatly). We are also joined by a savage-man strangely called Mouse; a barbarian-like individual if you will, who we met fighting our way into the keep. And last but not least a half-man, or halfling as some call them, who also posses the will of the gods. The halfling was the small individual hailing us from the keep’s parapets earlier, his name is Navarro. He apparently knows Governor Nighthill of Greenest, and seem to know many of the keep’s leadership, helpful to be sure.
